Educare I and II Preschool Programs

Welcome! We are pleased that you are interested in learning more about our programs. Our classrooms are conveniently located on the first floor of the Dole Building and are fully licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. We strive to provide young children with responsive and nurturing care, respect and individualized learning opportunities in a high quality setting. Our goal is to work collaboratively with each family and to help all children grow, develop and achieve to their fullest potential.

Educare is a full day, fully inclusive preschool program that operates from 7:45 am to 5:30 pm., Monday through Friday. Our program follows the University semester schedule and is closed during spring and fall breaks, intersessions, and all University holidays.

Educare follows a daily schedule which includes activities such as meals (breakfast, lunch and snack), outdoor and movement times, nap/rest times, circle times, free-choice activities, and a wide variety of developmentally appropriate learning experiences designed to meet children's individual needs.

Educare's teachers and staff work to create an atmosphere in which children are eager to learn. Goals and objectives are identified for each child and activities planned that promote gains in all developmental areas. The curriculum provides children with opportunities to work on large movement, small movement, social-emotional, language, literacy, science, art, technology, concept formation, and self-help skills. Children learn to express their curiosity, problem-solve, practice, and work cooperatively with others through activities based on play and hands-on involvement.

Educare's teachers are University of Kansas undergraduate and graduate students who are pursing degrees in early childhood education and related fields. In addition, a Program Coordinator, an Assistant Program Coordinator and faculty member work closely with the teachers on a daily basis.

Educare's teachers receive continuous training in health and safety, child development, observation and fostering children's learning. In addition, they bring a variety of diverse interests, cultural backgrounds, talents and skills to the classroom which further enriches children's experiences.
